  Therapeutic Indications & Usage
   
  Mentone is indicated for regulation and maintenance of menstrual flow and treating dysmenorrhea.
It is also helpful and effective in delayed Puberty,Oligomenorrhea,dysfunctional uterine bleeding(DUB),annovulation,functional female infertility and menopausal disturbances.Above all Mentone tones up the endometrial Vasculature.
Mentone in Indicated in conditions like :
 
  • Dysmenorrhea
  • Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding (DUB)
  • Postpartum Hemorrhage
  • Incomplete/Inevitable Abortion
  • Leuchorrhea
  • Pelvic Inflammatory Disease(P.I.D)
   
  Contraindications
   
  Mentone is not to be given during Pregnancy because of its content of Cinnamomum Cassi and in view of Hibiscus rosa-Sinensis ability to lower progesterone levels by causing luteolysis and Beriberi aristata potential to cause damage to fetus.Mentone is not advocated for males.
   
  Since Syzygium aromaticum is unsafe in presence of active peptic ulcers,colitis and irritable bowel syndrome and Piper longum is possibly harmful in presence of peptic ulcers.Mentone must be avoided in these situations.
   
   
  Precautions
   
  Mentone must be advocated with caution in presence of congestion of the female genital organs.In severe renal and liver disorder,the use of MENTONE must be selectively restricted,In bleeding disorders the use of Mentone must be with due Precaution since Hemidesmus indicus contains Coumarin in significant amounts and Cinnamomum Cassia can aggravate bleeding.
   
   
  Warning
   
  Piper Longum (in Mentone)can reduce the natural antioxidant defenses.The effects of Mentone in female children and its safety during lactation are not known.
   
   
  Adverse Reactions
   
  Mentone is a properietary ayurvedic medicine that is well tolerated and usually devoid of any significant side effect. It can cause allergic reactions including precipitating acute respiratory symptoms
such as dyspnea.Acacia catechu can rarely cause hemolytic anemia.
Large doses of Syzygium aromaticum could cause gastrointestinal irritation .In higher Mentone doses,berberine (in berberis aristata) can causevomiting ,severe diarrhea and excessive sweating.
Drug interactions : Acorus calamus interacts with MAO inhibitors.Piper longum can enhance the bioavailibility of many drugs including Phenytoin and Oxytetracycline.
