  • Amoebiasis /Giardiasis
  • Skin & soft tissue infections
  • Uncomplicated UTI
  • Known hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin or any quinolone
  • In patients with a previous history of hypersensitivity to tinidazole or other nitroimidazole derivatives. Reported reactions have ranged in severity from urticaria to Stevens-Johnson syndrome
  • During first trimester of pregnancy
  • In nursing mothers: Interruption of breast-feeding is recommended during tinidazole therapy and for 3 days following the last dose
        Precaution & Warnings
        Tendinopathy and Tendon Rupture
Fluoroquinolones, including ciprofloxacin, are associated with increased risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture in all age groups.1This risk is further increased in older adults (usually those >60 years of age), individuals receiving concomitant corticosteroids, and kidney, heart, or lung transplant recipients
        Musculoskeletal Effects
Increased incidence of musculoskeletal disorders related to joints and/or surrounding tissues (e.g., arthralgia, abnormal gait, abnormal joint exam, joint sprains, leg pain, back pain, arthrosis, bone pain, myalgia, arm pain, decreased range of motion in a joint) reported in pediatric patients receiving ciprofloxacin
        CNS Effects
Possibility of CNS effects, including seizures, increased intracranial pressure, toxic psychoses, and CNS stimulation leading to dizziness, confusion, tremors, hallucinations, depression, and, rarely, suicidal thoughts or acts.1These may occur following first dose
Superinfection/Clostridium difficile-associated Diarrhea and Colitis (CDAD)
Possible emergence and overgrowth of nonsusceptible bacteria or fungi.Institute appropriate therapy if superinfection occurs
        Neurological Adverse Reactions
Convulsive seizures and peripheral neuropathy, the latter characterized mainly by numbness or paresthesia of an extremity, have been reported in patients treated with tinidazole. The appearance of abnormal neurologic signs demands the prompt discontinuation of tinidazole therapy.
        Vaginal Candidiasis
The use of tinidazole may result in Candida vaginitis. In a clinical study of 235 women who received tinidazole for bacterial vaginosis, a vaginal fungal infection developed in 11 (4.7%) of all study subjects
        Blood Dyscrasia
Tinidazole should be used with caution in patients with evidence of or history of blood dyscrasia
        Adverse Reactions
GI effects (nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain/discomfort); headache; restlessness; rash
        Drug Interactions
Pharmacokinetic interaction with cytochrome P-450 (CYP) isoenzyme A2 substrates (e.g., theophylline, methylxanthines, tizanidine)
Concomitant use with theophylline has been associated with serious adverse effects (cardiac arrest, seizure, status epilepticus, respiratory failure)
Although not specifically identified in studies with tinidazole, the following drug interactions were reported for metronidazole, a chemically-related nitroimidazole. Therefore, these drug interactions may occur with tinidazole.
